Through extensive research and engagement ISIACC develops policy recommendations and procures strategic endorsement of these recommendations by the academic community and general public at large. On the basis of this ISIACC engages in dialogue with policy makers and government bodies, guide policy design, improvement and modification in the field of climate change and forest.
For example, in Mexico one of our achievements was the recent adoption of an ISIACC recommendation by Mexican government. This was in the form of a new law that will strengthen the voluntary certification of private and public owned land, increase protected areas and lead to a reduction in national GHG emissions from land-use change and deforestation.
The Colombian Environmental Ministry has also adopted an ISIACC recommendation as one of the top priorities in its National Development Plan. Our team in Colombia was further invited by the Ministry to be involved in a review of their forest and climate change policy strategy.
In Brazil, ISIACC has actively participated in the development of local and national climate change policies. ISIACC recommendation on setting up clear internal goals for deforestation reduction was one of top issues discussed during the National Conference on the Environment, where government and civil society debated the National Plan of Fighting against Climate Change.
