ISIACC promotes alliances in Colombia on Climate Change
Since June 2009 ISIACC Colombia has been active in different spaces to encourage discussion, awareness and communication on climate change in Colombia, especially in Bogota.
These spaces include a new group of young professionals and college students who are interested in participating in the COP 15 in Copenhagen in December this year, the Colombian Climate Action and two university research groups in climate change issues.
The Colombian Climate Action was formed in July this year as a result of an exercise done by the UN and the Universidad del Rosario simulating the UNFCCC COP 15 in Bogota. As a result came out a Declaration of Bogota that was the input for a group of 15 youths who participated in this event, to come together and to find a strategy that enables them to participate in the real COP15. ISIACC Colombia as a national benchmark was invited to support the organization of this group and for training on key issues.
At the District University of Bogota ISIACC Colombia encouraged the creation of the Adelpus research group on climate issues, which is now organizing a series of seminars on climate change, where three members in our team have participated so far: Javier Sabogal, Jason Garcia and Oscar Guevara. Juana Camacho will give the closing seminar on youth actions on climate change.
In the School of Public Service the same exercise was developed. The students with the help of a teacher created the research group and organized the seminars with ISIACC Colombia. The ESAP has colleges in several departments in Colombia and in the last seminar they participated by video conference.
Once completed these seminars we hope to continue the work of articulation and awareness ISIACC Colombia has been developing.
